Practicing yoga is a great way to improve your physical and mental health, and there are many different ways to do it. One option is to practice at home online, but there are many benefits to practicing yoga in a studio that can enhance your practice and deepen your experience. In this blog post, we’ll explore some of the benefits of practicing yoga in a studio.
Access to experienced teachers
When you practice yoga in a studio, you have access to experienced teachers who can guide you through the practice and offer personalised feedback and adjustments. Of course you can gain access to some of the worlds best asana teachers online but in a lot of cases this is through a prerecorded class which means you sacrifice those little prompts and alignment pointers that you are able to receive from your teacher in person. Being in a studio and receiving those alignment prompts help you deepen your understanding of the poses and refine your alignment, which can lead to greater physical benefits and most importantly prevent injury or bad alignment habits that lead to injury.
Community and support
Something that I know a lot of our members and students love about Yogaharta is the community. There is something special about a group of people coming together for a common purpose, connecting your breath and movement with a room full of people brings a whole new element to our practice that can’t be taken for granted. Words don’t always have to be exchanged to feel a connection with everyone you just shared the space with. Practicing yoga in a studio also offers the opportunity to connect with other yogis and build a supportive community. This can be especially valuable if you’re new to yoga or are looking for like-minded individuals to share your practice with. Having a community of support can also help you stay motivated and committed to your practice.
Dedicated space and atmosphere
So many times through covid we had feedback about the struggles of our community committing to their practice online because they didn’t feel that they had somewhere to practice in their home that gave them the same experience as coming to our dedicated space at Yogaharta to enjoy their practice of yoga. Yoga studios are designed to create a calm, peaceful atmosphere that is conducive to a yoga practice. With dedicated spaces for practice, as well as soothing lighting, music, and aromatherapy, yoga studios provide an environment that can enhance your practice and help you feel more relaxed and focused. The practice of yoga is about the journey back to yourself, to arrive here in the moment. That all starts by entering into a space that provides a soothing environment to allow for that journey to take place. Not somewhere that reminds you of all the chores that need to be done or work that you could be doing or where other members of the house are asking you when you will be done so they can use the lounge room haha.
Variety of classes and styles
Yogaharta offers a variety of classes and styles to choose from, including Vinyasa, Hatha (slow flow/gentle flow), Yin, Restorative, to name a few. Not only is our timetable diverse but our teachers do their best to bring you a variation of flows and postures from week to week. This keeps your practice fresh and exciting, offering new ways for you to move your body which will help you learn more about your body and your practice. Another benefit of having all of these styles in one place is you explore the different styles and find what works best for your body and preferences. Yogaharta also offers workshops and special events that can deepen your practice and provide opportunities for growth and learning. These workshops are facilitated by our lovely teachers and specialists from outside of the regular schedule.
Technology-free zone
Finally, practicing yoga in a studio provides a chance to disconnect from technology and distractions, to focus solely on your practice. Without the distractions of phones, emails, and other obligations, you can fully immerse yourself in the practice and experience its full benefits.
In saying all of this if the only option you have to access yoga is online then that is the best option for you without a doubt! There are also a lot of benefits to online workshops and trainings, especially if those training are more focused on education and literature, a lot of the time this is the best way to put forward this form of class and yoga due to its wide reach and accessibility. During covid the only way we could stay connected as a community was through our online platform and for that we are forever grateful! But it did highlight how blessed we are to be able to come together in person and share this practice with one another, we will not take that for granted.
In summary, practicing yoga in a dedicated yoga studio offers many benefits, including access to experienced teachers, community and support, a dedicated space and atmosphere, a variety of classes and styles, and a technology-free zone. Whether you’re new to yoga or a seasoned practitioner, a yoga studio can enhance your practice and help you achieve your physical and mental health goals.
