Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind.
The second sutra of the eight-fold path of yoga is the theme and driving force behind our Living Yoga retreat.
We have created this retreat weekend with the intention for you to truly experience how a yogic-centered lifestyle has the ability to achieve the above. Over three days, you will be immersed in a yogic lifestyle, allowing you to embody the essence of this lifestyle science, and giving you the opportunity to retreat back to yourself whilst being surrounded by the beautiful Otway Ranges.
The facilitators of the Living Yoga retreat – Emilie, Julie and Cody – have intentionally formulated an itinerary in a way to introduce the many practices yoga has to offer. With a combination of practical workshop classes as well as time to discuss principles and practices that span further than just the postures of yoga, this weekend will offer a glimpse into how you can take responsibility for your own health and happiness, and live a more centered and blissful life.
Cody was first introduced to yoga through meditation at the age of 16, and started a practice of Hatha yoga shortly after, learning more about asana, pranayama and meditation. He became very curious as to how this practice was able to impact his day-to-day life so dramatically, and wanted to know more about the space of stillness experienced throughout his practice. At the age of 22, he was introduced to Maha yoga, the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharishi, where his journey into the philosophy and spiritual teachings of yoga truly began. Cody completed his yogic studies in India and has been teaching meditation for 5 years. Cody will be leading the Pranayama and Meditation classes, as well as the Introduction to Yogic Philosophy.
Emilie has been practicing Yoga for 12 years and teaching for 7. Having a keen interest in functional anatomy, biomechanics and movement, Emilie loves integrating yoga asana and creative movement with philosophy, breath work and mindfulness to cultivate a healthy and happy life. Emilie believes Yoga is a complete and holistic practice that can support each unique practitioner on their individual journey. Emilie will be guiding the morning Vinyasa Flow practices, as well as offering assistance during the Yin class.
Julie found yoga 8 years ago, when seeking an escape from anxiety and a high-stress job. What followed was an endless journey of self discovery, and a fascination with the way that yoga made her feel, well beyond the physical. With a yearning to help others feel better in their own lives, Julie completed her first training over 5 years ago. She believes that we can all be a little more mindful and compassionate towards ourselves both on and off the mat, and her classes provide a supportive space for people to embody the experience of a mind-body-breath connection. Julie will be guiding the afternoon Yin class, and assisting in the morning Vinyasa classes.
